Some Bright Young Things: Emerging Artists
-
Overview
It is with great pleasure that I take the opportunity to introduce our latest show ‘Some Bright Young Things’, or as they have been fondly referred to at times ‘Those Pesky Kids’. The exhibition showcases works by Jodi Le Bigre, Emma Caldow, Jack Dunnett, Katie Forbes, Mairearad Green, Lizzie Lilley, Lar MacGregor, Eve McGlynn and Calum Wallis.
It is easy to forget the challenge of transitioning from an emerging to an established artist. The step away from institutionalised teaching means the necessary taking of risks and instilling of habits. I encourage such artists to be brave and hold tight to the dreams that they once chose to follow.
One of my overriding aims for the Inverness Gallery was to create a space that would excite emerging artists, encouraging them to reconsider a common desire to head south in search of a Gallery that was representative of their own ambitions.
The realisation of ‘Some Bright Young Things’ marks the beginning of new directions for Browns Gallery, and presents an opportunity to foster new relationships with the next generation of Scottish artists.
Whilst it is crucial to amplify these new voices, it is also essential to reflect on the previous generations of Scottish artists. Their hard fought successes allowed for the foundations on which this new generation now stand upon.
I am privileged to be able to positively impact the journey of these emerging artists, and I encourage you to come along and explore what the future generation of Scottish artists have to offer.
