Tàmh: Works by Amelia Humber
-
Overview
Tàmh - meaning to rest, stay or stillness, quietness
Amelia Humber has been showing with Browns Gallery for more than 10 years, after joining us whilst she was living and working in the Cairngorms National Park. She has now relocated to London, but her work remains deeply inspired by the landscape of Scotland.
She escapes to Scotland whenever she can, venturing into the wilds of the Highlands to let the landscape consume her. Away from the pressures of everyday life, she is able to find a unique sense of peace, which she later translates into surfaces in her studio.
There is a quietness about each of her artworks. They offer space for calm contemplation. In some ways, they act as a reminder to breathe. Our hope is that you can join us in the Gallery, to view Amelia Humber's work and find your own moment for quiet reflection.

WorksThis selection of work continues to depict snapshots of the UK, with an emphasis on the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
I am excited to be showing this body of work in Scotland - the place that has inspired and will continue to inspire a huge part of my practice. After living in the Cairngorm National Park earlier in my career, I continue to visit Scotland as and when I can.
The force of nature, wild landscapes and breathtaking scenery will forever remind me that the most important element of my work is to get outside, away from the pressures of life and observe and enjoy the landscape that will infuse and amplify my ideas back in the studio.
My hope is that I can recreate elements of specific points in time, a space where the viewer finds their moment of calm; their personal link to a memory of a landscape that has stayed with them. A place of contemplation and quietness.
