Limro: New Works by Laura Drever

26 October - 23 November 2024 Inverness
  • Overview

Limro – n. Phosphorescence on objects in the open air, caused by unusual atmospheric conditions.

For our Gallery Director, Gordon Brown, Orkney has become a favourite escape —  “It is a joy to visit Orkney, regardless of the weather or time of year. I have always known it to be an inspiring place.”

So inspiring, that in October 2023, the Gallery welcomed thirteen Orcadian Artists to exhibit in a show entitled ‘Orcadia’. Glimmering amidst the cohort, with a collection of luxuriant golden landscapes, was Laura Drever.

Now, in October of 2024, the Gallery welcomes Laura back to Inverness for her solo show, Limro. Aglow with the discernible golden marks that we now recognise to be those of Laura Drever, this show continues to hold a candle to the inspiring place that is Orkney.

Through a series of canvases, Laura guides us through her homeland, inviting us to experience it’s unique character. Her works, vibrating with the vitality of Orkney’s ubiquitous wind, remind us of what it is to be alive amidst the most powerful of natural landscapes.

We’re thrilled to welcome Laura Drever into the Gallery again; delighted to shine a light on one of Orkney’s many talented creatives; and positive that by Laura’s hand, many others will be able to experience the essence of this inspiring place.
